What are the best websites for finding cheap cruises?

There is a problem with going to the on-line sites that advertise the cheap, lowest prices. The cruise lines have a few rooms that are hard to even find on their floor plan, and they will assign them to the different tour packagers. They are like the one car on a car lot that is advertised, but you never can find that particular car.

One time I kept at it until I found the rooms they were talking about… and they were only four rooms around a corner and where the entrance to the crew quarters were.

Now… I don’t really have a problem with that, and have considered certain circumstances where I actually might prefer those rooms… but even if you do, they may be reserved for one of the visiting entertainers or art auction types, etc.

So once you get past the advertised specials, you are back in the same mix with the cruise line’s advertised rates.

On the other hand, I don’t think there is anything wrong with using an on-line travel packager, but it won’t mean you always get the lowest price.

What I recommend is that you become your own best expert. Start with the cruise lines website. If you get proficient at using their sites you will find that you can recognize the prices for the different categories.

Better than the packagers are groups. Look around your community and see if there are any groups putting together a cruise. In my city alone there are three groups putting together cruises, and they have the lowest prices and also include amenities.

Add the fare, taxes and fees together to come up with the total and divide by the number of days to come up with your per day cost per person. Carnival adds $10 pp/pd for tips, so I add that too. I am doing a group for an October cruise and have it down to $77 pp/pd including everything. Plus we get a $50 on-board credit, wine, and a hosted cocktail party!

Also better than worrying about the packager is to plan your departure city.

On a lot of cruises you end up having to travel to a different city the day before, so you end up with airfare and a hotel night’s stay. We are able to use public transportation (saves us paying $10 to $20 per day parking fees) and arrive the morning we sail. So there are a lot of other considerations other than just finding a low price.

So… become your own expert; find a group or form your own; and plan the departure city wisely.

Cheap All Inclusive Punta Cana Resort Trip?

My friends and I want to take a trip to punta cana. I checked out the all inclusive packages early a few months ago and they were 500 including airfare. However, we are procrastinators.

Summer isn’t usually cheap because that’s when everyone wants to go. Low season is August – November since it’s hurricane season and not that many people want to go to the Caribbean that time. I recommend going with at least a 4 star, you seriously will be GLAD. it’s a vacation after all, your not just concerned about going there. Since it’s all inclusive there is a big difference between the FOOD/Service/Bedding/bathrooms from a 3 star to a 4 star. Barcelo’s are usually reasonable and really nice!! =]

Help with finding best Airfare?

I would like to go to Germany from Pittsburgh sometime next late June. I absolutely need the lowest prices (INCLUDING fees and taxes) if someone can give me any advice whatsoever, or any websites that are very cheap, that would be excellent. I’m trying to keep the cost anywhere under $900 to $1100 total. If it helps, my dad is on the Naval reserve (just in case of military discount)

I would highly recommend both hotwire and priceline, with cheaptickets comping in a close third. I’ve searched around for airfare quite a bit, and these three sites usually ring true as the cheapest. Other than that, I’d go to sites like igougo.com, travelzoo.com, or bookingbuddy.com. These sites offer searches of multiple online airfare websites, making it easier and less time consuming to compare prices. As for when to buy, I usually go to farecast.com. They pretty accurately predict when a good time to buy a flight would be based off of past and current trends, etc. It’s pretty useful. Another site I’ve found handy is rightflight.org. They did a bunch of research on the various airfare sites to see which sites are usually the cheapest. They also have a list of most of the airfare sites (60+) on their webpage, which can be pretty handy in and of itself. Hope this helped!
