What’s the best website to find a cheap flight from Rome to Vienna?
I am looking for more websites with cheap flights. Ryanair, along with some other sites, doesnt fly to Vienna. So I would love any suggestions!
There are a couple of good sites for budget flights here in Europe. The ones I use most often if I don’t have specific flights in mind: http://www.whichbudget.com/en/ and http://www.skyscanner.net/
AirBerlin flies from Rome (Fiumicino) to Vienna – there are flights for as low as 89 euro next month depending on exactly when you want to fly.
For comparison, you can take the night train from Rome to Vienna for as low as 29 euro on days when the Smart fare is available. I checked several days next month and there were still tickets at this price for all of them. I don’t really recommend the 29 euro tickets – these are 2nd class seats and it can be difficult to get any sleep if the compartment is full. The better option is a berth in a 6 bed cuchette on the same train for 49 euro. The night train leaves Rome at 7:10 pm and arrives in Vienna at 8:52 am. I’ve taken this train several times, but catch it in northern Italy. The standard fare is 120 euro – the Smart fare is a good savings especially when you consider that you don’t have to pay for other lodging for that night. http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

How much is the cost of a European Holiday?
OK, so I’m planning a 2 month Holiday in Europe (visiting Rome, Milan, Zurich, Munich (for Oktoberfest), Amsterdam, London, Paris) and finishing with 2 – 3 in the US (I’m from Australia btw). Now, I’ve got my flights organised and I’ve been to Italy before so I have a general idea of the costs involved but what I was more concerned about was the cost of accomodation per night backpacking (so hostels and dodgy places like that) with 4 other people. Last time I stayed with family so didn’t have to worry about that. So just a general idea of costs for accommodation per night in cheap hostels for both continents would be nice, thanks.
Hostels average €20-25/night/person in western Europe. You can find them slightly cheaper, but the ones of decent quality in good locations will cost about that. Alternately, you can stay at a guest house/bed and breakfast for about the same price, if you search around for them. They are usually much nicer (more private) and offer amenities like breakfast.
Hostels in the US widely differ in cost. I’ve stayed in ones that were as cheap as $15/night/person, up to about $35. Just as a warning, if you don’t have a car, you may have difficulty finding hostels in the US. You can also find cheap motels starting around $40-50/night for a double room. The cost rises per known person staying in a room. They won’t necessarily be nice. Independent places may be cheapest (and dirtiest), but there are also a few major inexpensive chains:

Food depends on habits, but if you buy from a grocery store, you can get by on €15 or less a day in much of Europe. Street food and cheap restaurants will need €20-30 per day/person. In the US, I would average about $10-15 for grocery stores, and $15-30 for cheap restaurants per day/person. I usually just buy sandwich materials and fruit and get by on much less.
